Deliveries go wide
Philip Chadwick’s assessment of data accuracy for transpromo marketing is spot on (Getting a handle on data, PrintWeek Technology Report, September 2008).

Our own research found that over 40% of Britons received a bill or statement addressed to the wrong person over a six-month period.

This is an indictment on customer data standards at any organisation that sends transactional documents, all of whom want to grasp the transpromo opportunity, but a section of whom seem to be undermining that opportunity.

The misdirection of these confidential documents causes annoyance and distress and may serve to undermine consumer receptiveness to any targeted advertising that accompanies them.

If transpromo is to be effectively exploited improvement is needed in data standards. The opportunities presented by transpromo are great. But their use requires business to make significant enhancements to the way it manages customer records.

Coupling Cooper Clegg
Pindar’s decision to sell Cooper Clegg can come as no real surprise. It was an odd move when the company bought it back in 2007 and the web offset sector has deteriorated significantly since then with prices being forced ever lower. I hate to say it but I think it will be difficult to find a buyer with the current state of the money markets as they are. The question is who will be able to raise the funds. Andrew Pindar should be commended though for not just putting the business into administration which everyone else seems to do these days.
Paul Glover, West Midlands

As the vultures circle, I hope the industry does not forget that we can produce some of the best quality web offset print in the UK. We at Cooper Clegg produce quality print for some of the most demanding print buyers in the UK. The dedication and skill levels at Pindar Tewkesbury/Cooper Clegg are unequalled in the industry. We are at the forefront of colour and proof management and our presses and bindery equipment are maintained to the highest standards. If someone does not take this opportunity to purchase the business, I fear for the future of the UK web offset market.
