Goss prepares for pagination upheaval with 96pp Sunday press

Goss International has revealed it is developing the world's first 96pp commercial web offset press, set to be installed in late 2008.

The manufacturer has teamed up with commercial printer Grafiche Mazzucchelli, which will install the new 4x12-format, 2,860mm-wide Sunday 5000 press in Seriate, Italy, next year. Goss will also supply a Contiweb FD paster and Ecocool dryer with integrated chill rolls.

Grafiche managing director Pierluigi Guerini said: "We have had excellent success with 48 and 64pp Sunday presses with pinless folders.

"The wider 96pp format represents the next breakthrough, combining added high-pagination productivity with short-run efficiency."

More than 2,000 Sunday presses have been installed worldwide since they first appeared in 1993.

Jacques Navarre, senior vice-president of sales for Goss International in Europe, said: "Our original gapless and pinless Sunday presses revolutionised web printing, allowing higher quality at higher speeds on wider webs.

"The wider Sunday 5000 press is the latest in a long line of developments that have continuously extended the competitive advantages of this proven Sunday press platform."

The deal was completed with assistance from the agent Macchingraf.
