AlphaPicture joins forces with DirectSmile for online portal

DirectSmile (DS) and Alpha-Picture have linked up to create an expanded online image personalisation service.

The link-up allows DS to branch out of its software-only approach to image personalisation and extends its reach onto the internet.

For AlphaPicture, a web portal that allows users to personalise a library of stocked images, it will enable a greater selection of images to be personalised.

DS president Christoph Schacht said: "With our range, users will be able to use image personalisation in a way that fits their business."

A DS portal is likely to be available by the end of the year, with more details announced in early October.

AlphaPicture's UK agent is Positive Focus. Its managing director, Ivor Dixon, said the link-up will give AlphaPicture users "more control".

"With DS, it will open out the portal and broaden the number of images users can personalise," he said. "At the moment, all AlphaPicture's images are fixed. The link up with DS will accelerate the portal's development."

AlphaPicture is part of i-Clue Interactive. Its managing director, Gerhard Maetterer, said: "Our concept, which combines advantages for the common benefit, will create a revolution in image personalisation."

Earlier this year, DS released a new version of its image software, which can handle a wider range of personalisation.

DS's rival, DirecType, part of Deutsch Technologies, said the link-up was "good news" and that "it shows that it does not suffice to offer either the software or the services".

"The market for image personalisation is facing its first consolidation," said Deutsch Technologies managing director Christoph Deutsch.
