Web and sheetfed printer Ancient House Press (AHP) has invested £70,000 in a new waste management system to bolster its environmental credentials.

The new system at the Ipswich-based company handles printers’ waste by automatically removing it from each machine through a suction point.

It is then taken out of the building and chopped, before being placed in a compactor.

Paul Sadler, AHP operations director, said the waste management system encompasses paper waste and also recycles dust-filtered warm air, which he said is both cost efficient and ensures a more pleasant working environment.

"We have a rolling programme in place to review all aspects of our operation with this objective firmly in view," he said.

AHP has 105 staff and its customers range from government departments to large household names. Earlier this year, the company invested £750,000 in new equipment for its finishing department and in 2007 it also installed a £2m Mitsubishi press (PrintWeek, 27 March 2008).
