KAS Mailmaster 465HS
Karen Jacobs, team leader of post imaging at medical insurance company WPA, says she is particularly impressed with the 465HS’s security features
What does the machine do?
The KAS Mailmaster 465HS inserts into DL, C5 and over-sized C4 envelopes at speeds of up to 6,000 envelopes an hour. Additional features on our line include sheet feeders with accumulation and inline folding, OMR, BCR or 2D reading facilities, touchscreen control, management information and inline stapling.
Why did you make the purchase?
The decision to upgrade came as part of an overall review of our print operation. We wanted the increased productivity and improved security that an automated enveloping machine with a bar code reader provides. We were hand-filling documents into larger envelopes because our previous machine could only insert documents into C5 envelopes.
Why did you choose this particular machine?
While we were visiting a reference site to look at a laser printer, we happened to see the KAS Mailmaster 465HS in action. It was so much more versatile than our previous enveloping machine because it can insert into both C5 and C4 envelopes.
What features do you particularly like?
KAS built the machine to our specification. As we send out a variety of different enclosures, including booklets, to our policyholders, we specified four insert stations, a feeder accumulator folder and a bar code reader. We were particularly impressed with the security features that KAS was able to provide. In many cases we are sending our policyholders confidential information, so it is essential that there are no mistakes in the processing.
Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
We decided to retrofit an ultrasonic double feed sensor, because we wanted a ‘belt and braces’ solution. The ultrasonic double feed sensor is useful when we are inserting documents without reading, like a letter, because it picks up every time if two sheets go through.
Has it won you any new work?
We are taking on internal jobs all the time. We are working towards enveloping virtually all correspondence centrally.
Do you think it offers value for money?
Yes, as it gives us the flexibility to pack in various formats in the one machine.
How easy is it to use?
It’s not overly complicated to operate and the more we’ve used it, the more knowledgeable we’ve become. One of the advantages of the Mailmaster is that we can set up a test run and turn off the sealer so that we don’t waste any envelopes.
How much time has it saved?
It has saved us a lot of time because we can insert into both C5 and C4 envelopes from the same machine, and we no longer have to fill C4 envelopes manually.
How has the machine performed?
The machine has performed very well and if we have any problems we know that there is always someone at KAS that can help us over the phone or in person.
Who do you think that the machine is right for?
Anyone who packs large volumes but in various formats.
In what circumstances would you buy another?
It is unlikely that we would buy another machine as there is much more capacity in this machine than we use
