Headley Brothers has bolstered its finishing and fulfilment services by investing in a Muller Martini BravoPlus Automatic Make-Ready System (Amrys) saddlestitcher for an undisclosed sum.

The Ashford-based magazine and journal printer said the kit is the world's first fully automatic machine in its performance class.

Key features include a compensating stacker for perfect stack formation that works with three-up production, a three-knife trimmer, and a stitching unit for standard, eyelet or child-safe stitching.

Managing director of the 300-strong company Roger Pitt said: "We have invested in equipment renowned for producing consistently high-quality results.

"We take pride in providing a seamless service with one point of contact – from web offset, sheetfed offset and digital printing, through to finishing, fulfilment, mailing and subscription services – all from the same site.

"This last investment both complements and enhances our existing offerings."

The Amrys is equipped with a touchscreen display that allows the operator to customise and alter job formats.

According to the company, the automatic system increases productivity and the machine's production speed can reach up to 12,000 cycles per hour. This can process products with runs in the 2,000-300,000 range.

The BravoPlus Amrys joins the company's four existing stitchers and three perfect binding lines.
